Not Everyone Deserves a Trial
Ok...So we all have this Blog Portfolio to do! I do not post much here- I;m not really the person that got all into it, but anyways, I do have a lot of strong opinions on situations. This sunject I found very intersting and I want to use it as one of my blogs with the comments attached. I think that everyone can have a good discussion on this topic and I PROMISE I will comment on everyon's blog that commented on mine : ) Thanks....
Lately I have not had much to say on this weblog because it seems very few things get me emotional enough to express my feelings to everyone who wants to know. What got me to write this time is a story from the Philadelphia Daily News about a little girl, Destiny Wright, that was strangled, raped, and killed by a twenty year old man.
This is not much to say besides the fact that, that guy is an animal and should get strangled, raped and beat just like he did to the innocent six year old child. I am a person to always say "There's two sides to a story", but def. not when it involves little children. I do not understand why the are giving this dirtball a trial. He doesn't deserve one and no one should be defending him. I do not want to hear that he displayed "a lack of thought" because I do not care. There is no explanation for what he did. Some things are just wrong no ifs ands or buts about it. I do not know the family that had to face this tragic event but if I were them I would shot that guy right in his face. The conclusion to this story is that the suspect was not put to death. I do not think that he deserves the right to ever breathe again. I am sorry if I upset anyone but I am not sorry that I feel this way.

You should have seen her in STW during the first semester. I thought she was going to hit me a couple of times.
Somehow I realize that since he has behaved as an animal, he is still a human being [though he apparently didn't treat this little girl as one] and as a citizen in this country, deserves a trial. I think if he wasn't tried, the court system would come undone at the seams--it would become a matter of opinion of who is tried and who just has their crimes reflected back on themselves.
I agree that what he did is wrong--VERY wrong, but without a trial, it makes another crime the injustice of not convicting and sentencing him as has been done to people like him since the right to fair trial was introduced in this country.
You are very passionate, Gina :^)
Tough issue; however, I do think that everyone should have a trial--if not for the person, then for the principles of democracy.
What this man did was terrible and inexcusable, but even he deserves a trial - even if it's just to reaffirm his guilt. I don't know how many years he was sentenced to, but I definately think that life in prison is a far worse punishment than death. Death seems like an easy out, whereas spending his life in prison is an actual punishment. Also, as terrible as this man's actions were, I do not believe that it is up to us to decide whether or not he deserves to live. By sentencing someone to the death penalty, we are making ourselves no better than he is.
