I'm hopeful that turnout will be good for this event, which is open to the entire campus. We're showing it primarily because an excerpt from Michael Moore's Stupid White Men book is in the textbook for the freshman STW classes, who will be discussing the topics of "education" and "globalism" this year. Journalism students should also have an interest in Moore's "documentary" -- I know Dr. Jerz and other popular bloggers have a lot to say about it, too.
Malcolm X's account of how education developed in his life is lucky at best. His educational base was off balance and weak. Though this article shows that education can be found in any situation with motivation and independency it portrays an unrealistic and uncommon finish to a hard life. One may succeed in any trial and situation, but people should not be influenced to think that all situations will turn out okay. A strong educational base is pushed in a wrong manner and students should be encouraged to succeed on different terms. Though Malcolm X turned out to be so much, his life was so hard, and this should be more accurately portrayed.

I think that whether or not you stand for or against Michael Moore, you have to realize that he's a filmmaker, and like many people who work in the media they'll always spin a story to make it look like it supports their cause. I don't believe in everything that Michael Moore represents, however, I do respect the fact that no matter what his opinion is, he isn't afraid to support it one hundred percent. Politics aside, it's nice to see that someone has a backbone in this industry.

No, but with world enough and time (and, well, a copy of the thing) we could. But showing this movie isn't an endorsement of one side of an issue; it's mostly for our STW classes to analyze, since Moore is in the textbook. I, for one, intend to let folks know about all the problems with Moore's films and I think any web research will uncover it, too.
So if you guys are showing this film, and in order to be fair and balanced (TM), it's safe to assume you are going to show the film "Michael Moore Hates America" right?
