I just find it funny that Icons is what the rest of the world connects to the USA with. My question is what do americans connect to the rest of the world with?

In my personal opinion, I'd have to say stereotypes. We tend to overgeneralize a lot of aspects in other cultures. That's how Americans relate. Unless, of course, they're attending a liberal arts university; in which case they don't have the choice to remain plagued by stereotypes :-)
