Considering an upgrade to MT4

I'm just letting current power users know... if I were you, I wouldn't make any major site design changes, since you might have to do them over again when blogs.setonhill.edu upgrades to MT4.

Right now I plan to make sure that all your links work and that any video or other special files you have uploaded remain accessible in the new site, but due to some major changes in the MT4 database, I expect that everyone will have to make some individual changes to their site in order to keep it running. (I'll put the instructions up on a website as soon as I have them.)

More gory details follow...

The ISP who has been running blogs.setonhill.edu for the past few years is getting out of the hosting business, and has asked me to find another host. He gave me plenty of notice, but I've been dragging my feet because I wanted to try to upgrade to MT4 at the same time that we switch over.

The ISP move and the upgrade are two separate things, but since it always takes me some time to get up to speed when it comes to doing this kind of admin work, I wanted to put both tasks together and tackle them over the summer. Unfortunately, MT4 was only officially released this week, when I had a lot of family activities planned. And next week, the fall workshops start, so while I will be back in the office full-time, I'll be spending a lot of time in meetings (in between preparing for classes).

Depending on how long it takes me to move the current installation, I might just stop there for now, and upgrade next semester. I hope it will "just work," but one never knows.
