Winston-Salem Journal | Big Three: Both sides covet key states

Pennsylvania has a Democratic governor, but Republicans control both houses of the legislature. Both of its U.S. Senators are Republicans and the GOP has 12 members of the House of Representatives, and the Democrats have seven.

Blogs seem to be popping up without limits - or rules - PittsburghLIVE.com

While blogs have proliferated like Tribbles on "Star Trek," most are relatively anonymous.
"The vast majority of Web logs have very small audiences, a dozen or 100 readers," Blood says. "Many of these blogs don't aspire to much more than that; they are designed to communicate with a small group of friends or hobbyists. If a Web log is interesting to those few people, it is achieving its purpose."

project-blog 2004:: because we care is sponsoring a blogathon.

Project Blog is here because we care and because we want to make a difference. On July 24th, bloggers from all around the world will be updating their own blog every 30 minutes for 24 solid hours all in the name of each blogger's favorite charity.

Hey, its a Saturday night. Most of you are in south-western PA. You know its gonna rain. Come raise some money. It sounds like fun and I think we should put our little blog server to the test. Comment if you want to do it with me (I need someone to stay up with). The more the merrier. Just 18 days left. Sign up now!

Also, if you have any good charities, then send the suggestions my way.

Yesterday was the fourth of July, and so like everyone else in America I waited till around 6pm, and headed off to find some fireworks. After stopping to ask a few random pedestrians directions, I found some, and I have to say it was one of the best displays I've seen in a long time. The explosions and lights were even synchronized with various patriotic songs and ballads.
Er...most of them were patriotic anyway. I have to say that I was a little surprised when, after a stunning rendition of "America the Beautiful," the music smoothly transitioned into "Intergalactic" by the Beastie Boys.

I heard several people around me mutter such things as "Beastie Boys?", "What the hell?" , and "I think I'm going to be sick." Ok, so that last one was me. But I could tell other people were thinking it. I really did hear someone behind me say "At least it's not "Brass Monkey" though. The Beastie Boys are fine to listen to in your car, at the occasional drunken party, or by yourself in a padded soundproof room. But at a fireworks display with 40,000 people watching? Somehow, it just doesn't seem right.

Independence Day

Happy Independence Day! (Or could it be more commonly known as merely the 4th of July?)

Despite that, I hope that the holiday is remembered for its meaning. But don't forget to enjoy some wonderful grilling and the beautiful warm weather.

Sing a patriotic song :)
