Bring on the Christmas tunes

Olivia Goudy, Staff Writer

It’s that time of year again folks. If you’re like me, you spend the whole year waiting to listen to Christmas music again.

You can’t escape it; it’s in every store, commercial, some radio stations…might as well accept and love it.

I took a survey on Facebook of my Seton Hill University (SHU) friends and their vote on the worst Christmas song. Results are limited to the friends who voted, so click the Online Setonian link below to cast your vote and see where your opinion ranks.

As for the results, they were pretty much the same around the board for a couple different online polls. In fact, the options voted on were the top songs on different compiled lists.

Numero uno? Lou Monte’s 1960 single “Dominick the Donkey.” Not sure why listeners don’t enjoy hearing the obnoxious “hee haw hee haw.”

Trailing was “Santa Baby,” “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer,” “Wonderful Christmastime” and “Last Christmas.”

Want to make these worst voted songs worse? Check out their videos on YouTube. Now if you truly want to see an awful Christmas song, check out Jon Bon Jovi’s “R2D2 We Wish You A Merry Christmas.” Believe me, it truly hurts to say that as a Jon Bon fan.

Among the awful, corny songs, there are a few gems. “Happy Xmas, War Is Over” by John Lennon seems to be a fan favorite because of his strong fan base and overall good song.

Popular this Christmas season seems to be a’cappella like Straight No Chaser and crooner sounds like Michael Buble.

Don’t hesitate to check out Pandora online to catch some Christmas music; it’ll be gone before you know it.
