Number one came in as Will Farrell’s lighthearted “Elf.” Not far behind were “A Christmas Story” and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
Now don’t get me wrong, I like “Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color” as much as the next guy, but where are the good ol’ films?
The pattern you see with the top votes is that viewers are trading in the classics for a cheap laugh. What happened to Topper the Penguin, the Misfit Toys and Bing Crosby?
Consider tuning in to see “Miracle on 34th Street,” “White Christmas” or “It’s A Wonderful Life” for a blast from the past.
For my generation, ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas is a collection of must-see movies featuring a good blend of the oldies-but-goodies and the more current films.
Who doesn’t love the Harry Potter marathon, Claymation classics and ABC original films?
Remember to check out “Dr. Seuss’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas” Dec. 2 at 8 p.m., “The Polar Express” Dec. 5 at 8:30 p.m. and “The Santa Clause” Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. on ABC Family.
Also, I’ve got to say, there’s something to be said for the Hallmark movies. Some are cheesy, yeah, but those films do truly hold a deeper meaning and embrace the spirit of Christmas. If you want to check a few out, I’d recommend “The Christmas Choir” or “The Christmas Box.”
As the classic cartoon goes, “Christmas comes but once a year, now it’s here.” So sit back, relax and enjoy some holiday movies with cocoa, family and friends.
