GRAMMY Awards
Ladies and gents it’s almost time for the most prestigious of music awards. It’s music’s biggest night; Its GRAMMYs time.
Whether it’s on MTV, the radio, Pandora, or YouTube—however you get your music fix—it’s no surprise to hear some of this years top nominees.
Leading the pack with seven nominees is Kanye West. Adele is tied with Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars for six nominees in the running, followed by Lil Wayne and Skrillex with five.
Speaking of Skrillex, while it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, it is amazing to see this 24-year-old surge into the dubstep/electronica scene and join the ranks with some of best, like Deadmau5 and Daft Punk. Want proof from the critics? He’s in the running for Best New Artist and has five nominees as a new artist.
Joining Skrillex in the Best New Artist category are Bon Iver, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole and The Band Perry.
Adele has certainly had a stellar year overcoming vocal complications to wrangle in her five nominations, including Album, Song and Record Of The Year. Competition includes Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Mumford & Sons, Lady GaGa, Katy Perry and Bon Iver.
Shifting from mainstream to rock we find Mumford & Sons, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, The Decemberists and Radiohead among the top nominees for Best Rock Performance, Rock Album and Rock Song.
Placing between the Rap and R&B categories are Chris Brown, Drake, JAY Z, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West and Lil Wayne. For country fans, Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton and Taylor Swift lead on the nomination board.
While it’s the Dove Awards that feature contemporary Christian and gospel music, the GRAMMYs also honor the best. Among the top nominees are Chris Tomlin, Brandon Heath, Steven Curtis Chapman, Kirk Franklin, and newcomer Jamie Grace.
Amid nominations and winners are live performances by this year’s top artists. Taking the stage are Jason Aldean with Kelly Clarkson, Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj. New to the lineup for their first time performing together are Rihanna and Coldplay.
Hosting this year’s award show is two-time GRAMMY winner and costar of NCIS: Los Angeles, LL Cool J.
Originally dubbed the Gramophone Awards, these are a series of 78 honors given to the most successful songs, albums and artists in just about every genre.
While Dr. Hook and just about every other artist might want their “picture on the cover of the Rolling Stone” to achieve greatness, a GRAMMY is considered to be the most prestigious award in the music industry.
