“There are turtles, monkeys, pigs, labs, bulldogs, giraffes, ducks, penguins, lions, brown bears and polar bears,” said Marisa Corona, president of the Seton Hill Programming Board (SHPB). The SHPB is sponsoring the Take A Bear, Send A Bear event here on campus today from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

“We did it last year, and it was such a big hit so we decided to do it again,” Corona said. “The SHPB executive board usually hand picks the options that we feel would work best.” The bears are purchased from a vendor and there are no expenses for students and faculty.

“We have a different variety than last year but still brought back some favorites,” said Jessica Buchman, special events executive for SHPB. Students are invited to the parlors during this event to find a fuzzy friend that can either be kept or given to someone special.

This is the second year for Take A Bear, Send A Bear. According to Buchman, “It seems like we will have a pretty decent turn out, considering last year the bears went so fast. I’m going to guess 200-250 students will show up.”

The year prior was a success. “I believe last year we unfortunately had to turn some students away because people got there and there weren’t any left,” Buchman said. “I vaguely remember going to set up and there was already a line of students.”

“Like all our events, I like the sense of community and excitement they bring to campus,” Corona said. “I also like that you have the options to keep the bear or send it to a friend. I’d personally rather give a bear than keep a bear, because I find it fun to surprise people, but there are options for everyone.” Corona said that she personally thinks the polar bear is this year’s cutest animal for the event, but each one is great.

“Usually 250 bears go, and they go fast, so make sure to come early!” Corona said. If you have any questions about this event, contact Marisa Corona at m.corona@setonhill.edu or 724-799-3135.
