Opening Liturgy and Book Discussion

I am very excited to begin blogging for the Admissions Department. I have been attending Seton Hill for four years and will graduate this Spring. I am very familiar with the school and will be happy to answer any questions.

On the calendar of events, it states that tomorrow Seton Hill will recognize the beginning of the school year with Opening Liturgy and Book discussion. If you are new to Seton Hill this is a yearly tradition. Over the summer incoming freshmen are asked to read a book, and then attend the opening Book Discussion. It is a great opportunity for students to meet other students and faculty.

One SHU blogger has already posted a glowing review of Fr. Honegosky's homily. I had the pleasure of discussing our summer reading book with a group of bright students who had plenty to say. The panel discussion afterwards in Cecillian Hall was another good opportunity to learn about Asperger's syndrome, to reflect on the book's portrayal of mathematics, and on the government's response to the increased numbers of children who are being diagnosed as on the autistic spectrum.

While wandering around and taking photos of the event for the Setonian, I overheard many insightful discussions. Though I didn't read the book myself, I was impressed with the enthusiasm of the students who participated this year, so the book was obviously a great choice.
