My favorite things...pretty dresses

Two very pretty dresses.

One great price. $2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that is right. two dollar dresses at my favorite cut-rate store Gabriel Brothers.

gabriel_logo.gif Gabes!!!!!!

How did I find them? I did it the hard way. I looked all over the store. Tried everything that I thought I wanted on, and then went back for one more look at the clearance racks...and there they were.

Ralph Lauren red full-skirted A-line and black-laced bodiced blue Jones of New York. Two dresses from excellent designers. The material alone is worth more than $4.

Sure they need some work, a dart here, a little bit of dry cleaning there, but I love them.

The red one I am wearing to church. It screams, WEAR ME and KNOCK OUT THE CHURCHY BOYS. It looks like the one Nicole Kidman wore in Moulin Rouge, but to the shin--not the floor. BUT for church's sake, I will wear a demure black sweater over top, at least for the song service, when I am in front of everyone. THEN AGAIN, maybe not. I need to get out there again.

exciting stuff, Amanda. I can hardly wait for our planned shopping extravaganza :) (Whenever that is... I'm going to call one day, I really am--when I can breathe again, I'll call... cough attacks plague myspeech as of late.)

The entire bargain-hunting world is applauding you :-) And I just noticed the other day that there's a Gabe's near me, so I may have my own story to tell once I find time to go down there!

I just fixed it today. I am so happy that the sticker came off without too much of a hitch.

You see, there was a cut in the back and a sticker pointing out the problem (overkill--it could be seen very well). However, I have worked on it, and my only claim to girlishness--sewing--came in handy. I don't really even sew. I just like fixing things up. I think I could have been a mechanic. Nah. Too greasy. I like sparkles and pretty, soft fabrics.

Sorry to hear about the coughing fits. I get those every winter. The kind that you can't breathe, right? And yes, Ms. Young, I am going to knock out the churchy boys. Thank you for the compliment, Donna. Gabes is a wonderful place to go. I have bought some of my favorite clothes there. MY ULIMATE GABES ADVICE: GO TO THE CLEARANCE RACKS FIRST!!! They have the best deals and the fashions that no one else is daring enough to pull off. And from what I gather from you--you could pull anything off. Heck, your blog name knocks your employers. Very balsy.

Oh hello Amanda,

I am so happy to have read your little intro. I am very pleased to see that someone other than myself has faith in shopping at Gabes. My closet is filled with unique and stylish clothing. Can you say, "Bargain City". Yes, that is if you have extra time available. I can spend an easy $100 there. But think about it, I just bought two desinger name tops for $7.99 each, and both had origional tags marked at $45.00 a piece. Gee, yeah two tops I'd never buy at that price, but somehow I am wearing them. Katie, who sits next to me in EL266 enjoys shopping there also. We will plan a trip!!!!
