New writer

This blog is in appreciation to Evan Reynolds, the newest contributor to the Setonian.

When I didn't have an article for the online site, he volunteered to help me on Thursday. Evan said he hadn't written a news article before, but he was willing to learn. He thought that a student couldn't be part of The Setonian and Eye Contact, the literary magazine, at the same time. After having a small giggle at this and setting him straight that a student could, and should do both, I started to give him a fifteen-minute crash course in journalism. He listened beautifully.

Check out his work. I have never seen such a great first try, with minimal editing.

Oh, Evan... Of COURSE you can be in Eye Contact and the Setonian! That's what I did last semester, and what I intend to do upon my return to campus in January ;)

Way to pick up the slack--keep up the good work! (Anyone who is helping to de-stress my best friend Amanda is a friend of mine!)

My stress, though inducing some occasional whines, is considerably less than last year. I am not shaking or screaming or dreading the next day. I am going to be just fine.

Sorry... don't mean to make it sound like you're a maniac. You're not. Well, not usually--I take a bit of credit for that :) You were a sight last year... but you're certainly not a maniac. Just as long as there is time for cappuchino and shopping ;)

I thought I would go mad (or more mad than I already am) trying to balance everything else with the Setonian. It's not that bad (so far) I like the whole idea of being a contributer for the 'net. (Anything to take the maddening burden off Amanda!)

(Plus, those long, skinny notebooks are hott!) q':

Amanda, one quick question...

How do you "listen beautifully?" :P

Anyways, you're right about one thing: Evan's a great writer.

I'm really looking forward to reading the next issue of Eye Contact, and seeing everyone's work.

Listening beautifully is indicated in the work that is submitted. :-) Awkward phrasing is one of my specialties.

"Listen beautifully" is actually a rhetorical device called an epithet. Obviously, you cannot "listen beautifully." The word was taken out of the normal context of the verbs it normally modifies. But, with the connotations it holds, it makes figurative sense.

Other more widely know epithets include: "a lazy summer day," "untroubled sleep," and "bitter contempt."

So, kudos for Amanda for taking the plunge and "elegantly embellishing" (hee, hee) her work with an epithet! ;o}

Ooooo, Eye Contact is going to blow your mind! I'm in love with the design *w00t!*

Oh, and Evan--way to be on top of the game with literary device labeling. We could diagram sentences together one day. (I

Haha! I love it!

I'll be a uniter... next semester when I'm on campus enough to write an article :)
