Reasons 11 and 12 Why SHU Doesn't Need a Football Team

March 25, 2004

Building on Mike Rubino's list:
10 Reasons Why SHU Doesn't Need a Football Team

11. Football jocks will want cheeleaders at their games, and most likely not the ones that are on the current Seton Hill Cheerleading/Dance club. Cheerleaders, as they are intended for, will bring a larger attention to the football team, which in turn will take away from the other sports. The current Cheerleading club is in not sponsored by athletics. They are a club under SHGA. Having an actual cheerleading team will require money from athletics for uniforms and .. oh yeah .. a coach. Adding a cheerleading program at SHU will require more "recruitment" of the right kind of girl.

12. Lets count the numbers! Football team + cheerleaders + people working the football games + Karissa's Marching Band + the fact that all other sports teams have games on football saturday during the fall = no students interested in football to attend the games.

We need to get more people first! Where is the income supposed to come from if there is no one to attend? The tuition of the athletes won't outweigh the cost of the team/equipment/personnel. I guess Seton Hill is hoping that whatever teams we do play will send their fans to the games.

SHU should hype up the baseball teams and basketball teams ... and don't forget the lacrosse team before they start to hype up any other male sports.

Those are very good points, Brian. I totally agree with you! I never even considered the idea of having cheerleaders, a marching band, and workers for the football team.

This is just an all-out bad idea... let's hope Prez Boyle reads this.

Brian-- I agree with Mike. Boyle should read it... why don't you email all this to her, including everyone's comments? She likes you.

HEY! The marching band comment was PURE nostalgia. I already said I'm -not- in favor of the whole football thing.

It would be nice to have all these teams, plus the marching band, plus cheerleaders... but I defintely think that SHU should concentrate less on sports and more on academics and the construction needed to repair this old school. I was a mascot in high school and tell ya the truth, I am againist all of this "pro-jock" problem going on. Its just that high school is in the past, let's all concentrate on our education and use it in the future.
