Poetry VFX

In visual poetry, also called shaped verse and picture poetry, poets not only emphasize the idea and emotion of their subject but also fashion the poem into a recognizable shape on the page.

I remember spending a lot of time experimenting with picture poetry in high school; it was always one of my favorites.

On a side note, it looks to me like George Herbert's "Easter Wings" takes the shape of two hourglasses.

I thought that Lehman's "The World Trade Center" would have had additional meaning if he shaped his words into twin columns.

Chris, it seems like we both hit on the same topic. I love the idea of a poem communicating in an unexpected way.

Chris
In highschool I do not recall looking at poetry. However, visual poetry is a unique way of looking at poetry. When reading poetry is like reading a story. Upon reading you get a picture in your mind of what the poem is trying to say.
