Eats, Shoots and Leaves

I know that this is very unformal but I can not remember my password to blog.. so excuse me all but I am going to blog right here.

Before I even picked this book up to read it I thought about what Professor Jerz said in class. Not only did I not get the whole Panda joke but I obviously don't get any joke fast. So when I began to read the introduction and the first sign that Truss pointed out saud Come inside for Cd's, Video's, DVD's and Book's. For some reason I did not pick up on that and come on I know that I am not that bad at correcting papers and grammar. Not only did I not get it but I only got it when she had an explaination of why it was wrong. So from then until I finished chapter one I constantly was looking for the phrases that were wrong and tried to figure out what was wrong with them without Truss' help. Now I have a feeling that I am going to do that throughout the entire book which is quite annoying. But anyways, I really enjoyed this reading. It was nothing like I expected and it amazed me how many people and businesses actually didn't know correct grammar.
One thing that did confsue me was when she talked about possessive determiners and possessive pronouns. She also said that people use apostrophes to idicate the omission of letters. The examples that she had int he book were so hard to read. I don't understand why anybody would want to make reading harder by placing apostraphes everywhere instead of just writing out the whole words.
Before I read the book I though that my grammar was good. Like we said in the beginning of class I was one of the students that wasn't afraid of grammar. Now after reading how many places an apostraphe can go and etc. I am feeling a little afraid.
