Ex 1-5: Tempest Presubmission
Submit a presubmission report for Ex 1-6 (a researched critical essay on The Tempest). (2-3 pages.)
The presubmission report is a preliminary thesis paragraph (comprising the topic, precise opinion, and blueprint), a list of your main points (supported with quotations from credible sources), a tenative conclusion, and a complete MLA-style Works Cited list.
Once I approve your presubmission report, writing the actual paper should be easy.
For the list of main points (w/ quotations), should we simply provide a sort of "bulleted list," or should we actually present them in paragraphs?
Also, is it okay if we add more sources onto the Works Cited list after we submit this report, but before we submit the actual paper? Or do we have to have all of our sources chosen and documented already?
Posted by: ChrisU at February 23, 2005 09:28 PMThe whole point of the presubmission is to get you to think and plan before you start crafting paragraphs, so a bulleted list is fine.
You don't have to include a Works Cited list that includes every source you end up using in your paper, but you should turn in whatever Works Cited list you've got, if only to get feedback from me on whether you're doing the MLA style citations properly. You can add additional sources as your paper develops.
Good questions, Chris, as usual.
Posted by: Dennis G. Jerz at February 23, 2005 11:44 PMOk..I understand we're supposed to do a presubmission on a paper. But what exactly is the paper supposed to be on that deals with the Tempest? I am sorry I am ignorant on this...
Posted by: Lou Gagliardi at February 24, 2005 01:55 PMThe assignment instructions identify this assignment as your attempt to start on Ex 1-6. A link on the page for Ex 1-6 describes my expectations for a short research paper.
The article on Prospero's epilogue is an example of a researched critical essay (though it is, of course, on a much grander scale than what I am expecting you to produce in a few pages).
I recognize that some students will have trouble with this task, which is why I'm splitting it up into two parts. I'll give you copious feedback on Ex 1-5, for you to apply to Ex 1-6.

Posted by: Lou Gagliardi at February 24, 2005 03:08 PMDo we have to list every single quote we want to take from the sources to prove our point or just a few in the main topics?
Posted by: Vanessa at February 24, 2005 10:39 PMJust a few... I'm just trying to make sure you're off to a good start.
