Ex 2-0: Entrepreneurial Activity
Use your English skills to apply for something that you want -- the job or internship you want this summer, job you want when you graduate, or the job you want ten years after that. Instead of a job, you might want to go to graduate school, volunteer for a charity, or get a grant from a government agency or philanthropic foundation.
As long as the application process includes a list of specific criteria, and you submit to me a cover letter that explains how well you meet those criteria, and a resume that backs up your claims, I'm willing to be flexible. (For instance, you won't need a good resume to enter a pie-eating contest. But you might need a good resume in order to request funds to start a pie-eating club in Westmoreland County. If you have the credentials, and you find a funding agency that might fund such a project, go for it.)

What page is the Entrepreneurial Skills Development on in the CD version?

I remember you talking about this but I can't remember if you said we could create our own ad? I'm not to interested in applying for anything I've seen, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.
Evan: I found it on page 33.
Sam: I hope so, because the job I applied for didn't have an ad.
This assignment got really long... :-\
Posted by: Valerie at March 29, 2005 09:03 AMEvan, sorry, I don't have a copy of the CD version.
Sam, Researching the job is an important part of the assignment. I do want you to apply for a real job. If you can't find an ad, but you can find some other description of the job instead, that would be fine.
Posted by: Dennis G. Jerz at March 29, 2005 09:06 AMVal, you slipped your comment in while I was typing my reply to Sam... thanks for helping Evan. Did you find something else that described the qualifications for the position you want?
Posted by: Dennis G. Jerz at March 29, 2005 09:07 AMDr. Jerz,
I actually just put in a resume and a cover page for a job this summer. Is it okay if I submit that? (With some revisions, most likely). Also, if I can use this, I don't have an advertisement because I was told about it through word of mouth. Could I just write out for you what I was told about what my job description would be?
Can we sort of stretch the truth on this? I'm applying for a job I'd like 10 years from now and if I was to present my resume as is, no way would I be hired. So can I assume I've graduated college and gotten my masters or just go as is?
Posted by: Vanessa at March 29, 2005 11:36 PMKristen, it would be difficult for me to give you meaningful feedback in the situation you describe, but if that's what you want to turn in, I'll do my best.
Nessa, yes, you can apply for your dream job, but then section 6 becomes much more important.
