Ex 3a: Spot News (second slot)
Due dates for stories about the opening of the new dorm (12 Sep) and the honors convocation meeting (13 Sep).
Just a quick note to anyone who may have chosen to cover the Honors Convocation tomorrow -- there is some great information that gives general answers to most of the lead questions we learned about in class on the SHU Admissions blog.

I also noticed that our classmate Jenna O'Brocto is currently helping to maintain the Admissions blog as a part of her internship -- great job, Jenna!
Posted by: ChrisU at September 12, 2005 11:42 PMProf. Jerz, is there such thing as too long of an article? Even if all of the information is on relevant?
Posted by: Andy LoNigro at September 13, 2005 8:50 PMin the blog above i mean to say "is relevant?"
Posted by: Andy LoNigro at September 13, 2005 8:51 PMSounds like you got a lot out of the Honors Convocation. I made it to three of the four events that were part of this assignment, and not only did I personally enjoy seeing so many of you walking around with your notebooks, I also got to brag about you to my colleagues and administrators. I've been having a lot of fun, and I hope you have, too.
When you write a news article, write it with the understanding that a reader may stop reading at any time -- or the editor may chop it off at any point in order to make it fit.
I don't mind if your article is a bit to long, but if it's more than, say, 15% too long, I'll start to be very critical of any instances of wordiness.
Posted by: Dennis G. Jerz at September 13, 2005 9:23 PMI know this is a little late to be asking this, but are we supposed to turn in any kind of submission page with our article?
Posted by: Johanna at September 14, 2005 12:43 AMWe're going to do a draft workshop today, so no, there's no need for a formal submission note today. Just bring your draft.
For your revision, yes, there will be a revision highlighting and submission note.
