Due: Ex 1-2 (Reviews and E-Newsletter)

  • Find the Seton Hill University entry on the website ePinions.com. Comment briefly on two different reviews of SHU, and post one of your own. Save the URLs and submit them with this assignment. Length of review: at least 200 words.
  • Review something else online. Choose anything you like. Use ePinions, Amazon, or any other online service. Save the URL and submit it with this assignment. Length: at least 200 words.
  • Sign up for three different e-mail newsletters. To find newsletters, google for "e-mail news letters sign up", and then just add a word that interests you in order to narrow your results. Try to find weekly publications, since Ex 1-4 will ask you to review two e-newsletters. Save and submit the URLs of sample newsletters.
All exercises should be printed out and handed in. E-mail the URLs of the sign-up pages to me, with the subject line "YourLastName Ex 1-2".

just so you know... amazon.com takes a day or two to post a review because it has to make it past their censors and whatnot.

Being a keen soccer fan back home in Ireland I decided to do a review of the english premiership and some of the key stories that have been happpening recently.

I found this review on the skysports homepage -

Of the most dominating premiership news in recent weeks is that of the arrival of Wayne Rooney from Everton to Manchester United in a deal which was worth around 30 million pounds. This is a pheonominal price for a world talent at only the young age of eighteen.
Alex Ferguson, the manager of Manchester United, unveiled the player at a press conference on tuesday.

He was quick to say of his delight at capturing the player who has endured much speculation and anticipation as to what club he would be playing for this season. Ferguson revealed how Rooney had caught his eyes for some years, the earliest reference being when he was just the age of fourteen as a keen and developing player even back then. Ferguson praised Rooney and felt confident that he can be a player of world class capabilties.

Ferguson has a great reputation for the best out of his young players, as he stated at the press conference Manchester United are a team full of professionals. Ferguson made names in players such as Schole, Butt, and Beckham, even though Rooney is extremely good at the moment Ferguson has the ability to develop him into a world class legend.

He is confident Rooney can take up the field anywhere because he is that strong and determined which is a very positive thing for the likes of European football, Manchester can now look forward to an entertaining season with Rooney at their beck and call. Undoubtedly this is an extremely great buy for Manchester United and they can look foward to providing the premiership and european with an entertaining season.

Moira: That's fine.

Simon: Can you clarify -- is this your own original review, or did you find it on a website? If you did find it another source, it's good form to give the full URL, so that your readers can find the original easily.

Whoops.. if you search epinions for "Seton Hill University" you won't find it. Try "Seton Hill" instead. (They still have us listed as a college.)

Maybe I read The NewYorker too much, but I literally had to bite my tongue to keep from telling every review writer on ePinions that there reviews suck and they should never write another review or anything at all. So I left them a complicated and patronizing comment which is the equivilant in their scope of language to "don't write because you cannot write!" There, I feel better now! Back to my assignment!

Uh, I'm just going to print up the reviews I did since one of them said it was pending an overlook for language and such.

does ePionions take a while to process the information? because I posted my comments and reviews and they aren't showing up, so I have no URLs to prove it....

Stormy, you have to respond to the confirmation email ePinions sends out. You'll be able to see what you've posted after that.
