Over the break, while you are waiting for your books to arrive, I'm also assigning some movies for you to watch.

Rent and watch two of the following:

Tron (1982)
WarGames (1983)
Big (1988)
Spy Kids 3-D (2003)

I'd welcome suggestions for additional movies that include depictions of video games and those who play them.

Rent and watch any two of the following:

The Truman Show
Capricorn One (probably hard to find, but very good)
Matrix

Groundhog Day
Sliding Doors
It's a Wonderful Life

(The first group is about simulations, and the second group features alternate reality or replayability.)

How about ExistenZ? It's a very weird movie, but it's definitely about video games, blurring the boundaries between the real and the virtual, etc. There is even a bit about how in the future game designers will be revered like movie stars. ExistenZ is especially good as a companion to the Matrix.

Thanks for the suggestion, Megan. I'll check it out before the next time I offer this course.
