J-Web: Studying Video Games
http://blogs.setonhill.edu/mt/mt-tb.cgi/4976
Do the J-Web questions require the textbooks? I don't want to click on the link to open it because it can only be completed once and I don't want to mess anything up.
Posted by: Kayla Lukacs at January 3, 2006 03:55 PMGood question, Kayla. This set does not require the textbooks. The ones that require the textbook will have the name of the book in the title.
I've actually changed this set of questions so you can take it twice. I don't want to cause you needless stress. Just think of the J-Web assignments as a way I can get you to focus on a specific question, in a private situation where if you have to confess you don't know the answer or you make a wild guess, your efforts won't be splashed across your blog for everyone to see.
Thus, the first set of questions on Koster's Theory of Fun is due tomorrow at 11am.
Posted by: Dennis G. Jerz at January 3, 2006 04:09 PMUnfortunately my books still have not arrived I am hoping they will be here tomorrow. Is there anything I can do to make up that assignment because I will not be able to complete it by 11am tomorrow.
Posted by: Kayla Lukacs at January 3, 2006 04:25 PMMy copy of the Koster book has yet to arrive as well. Damn Christmas...Ordered it Dec 20. Kayla I know where you are coming from.
Posted by: Leslie Rodriguez at January 3, 2006 04:53 PMKayla, I can re-open that unit again for you when your books arrive.
While I think Koster's introduction to the study of games is wonderfully paced, you could skip ahead to the readings I've posted for Jan 6 -- Aarseth, Hayward and Wong. (I haven't created the J-Web unit for those readings yet, but you can still start reading, reacting, and responding.)
Posted by: Dennis G. Jerz at January 3, 2006 04:58 PMIf you don't have your books, then read, react and responed to Aarseth, Hayward and Wong (on the Jan 6 schedule) instead. (Remember, you don't need to post a 200-word reflection on each text, though of course I'd welcome such a sign of intellectual engagement.)
I do think that Koster gives a better introduction to game studies, but I'd rather you read SOMETHING than NOTHING.
Posted by: Dennis G. Jerz at January 3, 2006 05:02 PMI can't ever tell if my work is being saved on J-web. My computer is being very spacey right now. Dr. Jerz can you check and see if the second Study of Video Games ex saved my essay responses?
Posted by: Leslie Rodriguez at January 3, 2006 05:12 PMI think its locked me out somehow.
Posted by: Leslie Rodriguez at January 3, 2006 05:14 PMLeslie, your W2b answers came through just fine.
Posted by: Dennis G. Jerz at January 3, 2006 05:16 PMOk thank Dr.J, coming down off my freak out now.
