What type of video game is the "Strongbadzone" trying to represent?
Posted by: Evan Reynolds at January 2, 2006 06:07 PMI don't think I have a definate answer to that, but I believe the important mockery here was aimed at games with "cut edge" design but no focus on the game as a whole. I talk a little more indepth on my blog about that interpretation. "Strong Bad does Video Games"
Posted by: Stephan Puff at January 2, 2006 06:45 PMI'm not aware of a particular game that this one is spoofing, although the technology it's spoofing is vector graphics -- that is, rather than pixels that fill up the screen with blocks, vector graphics fill up the screen with straight lines. You have to draw each line separately, so there are no filled areas, and when two objects overlap, one can't block the other -- the computer will always draw one on top of the other.

The original Asteroids, Lunar Lander, and Tempest are probably the best known of these, though I have a fondness for Atari's Battlezone (a tank game).
