Ex 1-2a: Poetry Analysis

Two close readings, 200 words each. One of a Stevens poem, the other of a Williams poem from our poetry anthology. Submit on J-Web.

Define all unusual words, explain references to historical events, religious or mythological figures, etc. Advance preparation for next week's poetry slam (when you will read the poem out loud to the class and interpret its meaning).

Poem "ON the Adequacy of Landscape" poem of Stevens I feel that he is saying that people suffer most of the time "So that he suffers most of the time." meaning that people suffer most of the time and run and hide from the wings of the enemy.

My two poems are on the "Pastoral and Anglais mort A'Florence. For some reason these poems did not show up. I am reposting these poems. My thoughts is that they both deal with life passing and the how pleasing life can be and how unfortunate life can be. In the Pastoral the pastor seems to be pleased with his life and in the Anglaismort A' Florence it seemed that life passed him by quickly and that he was all alone and no one to talk to.

Lisa, I'll be happy to go over the details again during an office hour. I certainly don't expect everyone to "get it" all at once, but if you're still not feeling confident, it's really probably best for you to arrange a consulation with me. Do you think that would be a good idea?
