"His careers as Trimalcho was over." when Gatsby stops Saturday night parties (119).
All things come to an end at some point and time. His hopes and dreams of being with Daisy were all soon to end. He could no longer have the parties if Daisy was not going to attend them, in which case she was not she was going to stay with Tom, the cheater. Although Daisy is a convincing lier.
