Religion and Mr. Shiftlet

O'Connor, ''The Life You Save May Be Your Own'' -- Jerz: EL150 (Intro to Literary Study)

"A body and a spirit," he repeated. "The body, lady, is like a house: it don't go anywhere; but the spirit, lady, is like a automobile: always on the move, always..."

It is very interesting to me that religion is part of a lot of writing. After reading this entry, I thought that Mr. Shiftlet was teaching a lesson. He stated how the skeleton body is like a house and the spirit is always on the move like an automobile. This was a very interesting way of stating the human. It seems as though Mr. Shiftlet is a religious figure and reminds me of a preacher for the way he states his ideas.
