It's also one thing to have studied English; it's an entirely different matter to teach English.Lemire (skim Ch 2-7) -- Jerz: EL150 (Intro to Literary Study)
Although I have yet to teach English, I can completely agree with this statement. Think of something you're really good at. Now think of someone who is really bad at that same thing. Now imagine yourself trying to teach them to be able to do whatever it is that you're doing at the same level as you. Wow. That's hard. I can personally relate this to coaching. I've coached swimming for the past four summers, and, despite my previous eleven years of experience as a swimmer, each year I have coached I have learned a tremendous amount about how to be an effective coach. In the end, it doesn't matter that you know how to swim. What matters is that you know how to teach others how to swim by explaining and demonstrating key concepts in ways that they understand.
