Oooookay

Upon applying to Seton Hill as a senior in high school...

Was it ever brought to your attention there was going to be a lot of sports teams added to the school that coming year, the year in which we were to be freshmen? I remember being told about how the school embraces diversity and is expanding rapidly to keep up with its name of university in the way of sports and new buildings that were going to be constructed. Nothing that has happened here at SHU since I've arrived has really suprised me. Not the lack of building going on with the new rec center and not the smaller, almost high-school like atmosphere of living here on campus.
It may be true that guys on the baseball team are loud and mess stuff up but they aren't the only ones. They are the only guys that ever get blamed for anything being destroyed in Havey and although I do not live in that dormitory, I find it hard to believe that only baseball players are raising hell. I know that everyone always says, "not to generalize" or "not to talk smack on all baseball players" but it seems that they do it anyway time and time again. It could be stated that my view is biased but so is everyone that talks about athletes and lumps them all into one category of people. I guess I am blogging about this because I am sick of it. And by "it" I mean everyone complaining about the arrival of males on The Hill. It's being taken over by "jocks" and whatnot and that people think that the sports teams get too much credit for whatever they are involved in. I agree that sports are glorified more than they should be in high school and college, but I thought we were all big girls and boys and were gonna whine about it so much. I don't mean to sound sarcastic, but the whole athlete angle is so tired to me.
My thoughts are worn out on this right now, but I will probably add more later.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am so glad that someone stepped up to say something good about athletics. I am so tired of people complaining about "the jocks" getting scholarship money, and the academic students are not...boo hoo. I am sorry, but athletes do not need to be getting a new one ripped, especially because of the revenue being brought in. I mean, why do you think that they brought male athletics in? Because it appeals more to others...now we have male and female sports representing the school. So those of you that aren't in sports, STOP COMPLAINING! And we won't complain about you.

FINALLY omg.. shut the academic students AND the NAIA is peanuts people up!!! .... yeah even tho i don;t play a sport n e more, i am still considered an athlete, at least to myself. Quit your bitchen about new people, new teams and get over it, theres nothing you can do to stop it..so why whine and complain in the first place..all your going to do is piss people off..go back to your studys, athletics dont want you

Ok I agree with Emily. I came to this school for the arts not the teams. I understand that yeah sports are good for schools. Just not this one it is supposed to be a liberal Arts school not a show boat university. Personaly I don't want the football team beacuse football = marching bands which = unhappy me.

It's interesting to see how bent out of shape, and immature people are getting over a simple discussion of an ever-changing Seton. Your solution is for people to "deal with it" and to "shut up" and "stop complaining" and that's that. This is more like highschool than I originally thought.

By the way, everyone is misinterpretting what Mike (or as one person called him "the NAIA is peanuts guy") said. He wasn't demeaning the actual league or anything of that sort. Come on people, you are taking things too far and twisting the subject of that original entry.

i was not offering a solution through my blog. i was bringing up a topic that is going on at school and that i am tired about hearing. i was simply expressing my wish that seton hill could be less high school like by not get bent out of shape over some more sports teams being added.
I never mentioned Mike and i think that his idea for a blog on this subject is creative and in the same breath, his thoughts on naia don't bother me. I was never writing as another leg of Mike's entry, it was not meant to be viewed that way which is another reason why i didn't want to mention him, to start an internet blogging fight or whatever that would be. i just wanted to post my thoughts on the subject.

Hmmmm...real big buddy...

First of all, Emily said nothing about the "PEANUT" comment, so what are you talking about?

Second of all, what gives? Honestly now, if you are going to make such a profound statement as you did, then why not include your name?

Sports are coming whether you like it or not...it's my guess, however, that you don't even go here...am I right? WOW.

THIS WHOLE THING GOT SO BLOWN OUT OF PROPORTION.

Go Griffins, SHU UNIT FOR LIFE!

Emily Evans rock on....did I ever tell you you're my hero?!?
