You Say Tomato, I Say Tomato

Is that even the proper way to spell tomato? Is the correct spelling tomatoe?

Anyways...to the topic at hand

Last night I was talking to my boyfriend Branden about having a favorite song. I have this issue with picking a favorite of anything let alone music. Branden said that he had a favorite song in different catergories of music..and I thought that that was a good idea..so I decided to make a list of mine and hopefully have people respond with their personal favorites.

Who knows? I could even take back a favorite in one of my groups and replace it with someone elses suggestion!? :-P

Favorite oldie song: Tears Of A Clown - Smokey Robinson
Favorite Motown song: Ain't To Proud To Beg - The Temptations
Favorite country song: Sold - John Michael Montgomery
Favorite (newer) rock song - Breakout - Foo Fighters
Favorite (older) rock song - Hocus Pocus - The Focus
Favorite rap song - Right Thurr - Chingy
Favorite eclectic song - Oh So Quiet - Bjork
Favorite Funk/Pop/80's mixed Song - Kiss - Prince
Favorite Pop/Rock Song - Why Don't You & I - Santana & Chad Kroeger
Favorite Punk Song - I Miss You - Blink 182
Favorite Classical Song: Piano Sonata in C Major
Favorite Musical Song: TIE Officer Krupke - West Side Story

Twist it, Twerk it, Bob it

Twist it, Twerk it, Bob it

No my entry isn't a rap song...

When comparing the Bernice Bobs Her Hair video to the story it is not hard to pick out differences. A big difference that I noticed was how nice and friendly Bernice and Marjorie seemed to one another throughout the movie compared to the book. In the story, I felt that Bernice was looking for a close companion in Marjorie but found only the shell of such a friend. Marjorie, I think emulates a lot of the qualities that I find undesirable in a friend. Perhaps at first in the story, I didn’t feel that Marjorie was out to get Bernice but it became more and more apparent throughout the last pages of the story. That was another difference between the movie and story, that I was unable to see Marjorie’s hidden contempt for Bernice.
I also felt that another difference between the two was that the fight between Marjorie and Bernice was played down a lot. Marjorie goes on in a tangent talking about how it is sad that Bernice can not hold intelligent conversation with anyone, especially men. She says, "I hate dainty minds. But a girl has got to be dainty in person. If she looks like a million dollars she can talk about Russia, ping-pong, or the League of Nations and get away with it." (p 8) You do not get the sense that Marjorie can talk about any of those topics in the movie. She seems more confident but not smarter. In accordance with that, Bernice seemed a lot more forceful and aggressive in the movie that I pictured her while reading. She was more gutsy with Marjorie all throughout the movie.
My reaction to the differences of the story was that the movie really changed how I portrayed the story when I was reading it. I am not really a fan of books or stories transferred to movies because there is always an issue of keeping it the same. As we discussed in class, a bigger spending budget would probably have increased the quality and reality of the story because certain factors like the country club scenes would have been possible. Even though this story is kind of like the classical “nerd-like person transforms into a desirable person with the help of a popular person, only to be torn down by that same person.” Marjorie makes me angry by what she does to Bernice but makes me angry because she had no spine before Marjorie happened to her.

Who Needs Sleep?

Who needs sleep? Now that is a question I've been asking myself quite a bit lately...

Since we have recently started spring 2004 classes, I have been having a lot of trouble getting sleep. I find myself being up til as late at 4 am on certain nights tossing and turning but not being able to sleep. Of course the lack of sleep puts a big dent on how awake I am the next day in class.

Let's put it this way: If my first class is at 1 pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I SHOULD NOT be nodding off in class!

I asked many questions asking why would I not be able to sleep? To much sugar or something in my diet perhaps, I'm still not quite sure. But I did do a little bit of research on sleep deprivation just to check it out and see if there were any tips for falling asleep easier and to learn the ABC's of ZZZ's.

Any suggestions for falling asleep earlier? I'm open to all new ideas :-D

Bohemian Rhapsody

I have chosen to entitle my blog: ~Bohemian Rhapsody~

I had an unusual train of thought leading me to choose this name.

I was sitting at my computer in my room and picking a song to listen to when I came across the track, "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. I clicked to listen to it and pondered what exactly that title meant because although I could take a stab at guessing what each individual word meant, together I had no idea.

I then thought of the movie, "Moulin Rouge" which personally is a favorite of mine, although I know it doesn't appeal to everyone. But at the beginning of the movie there are all of these people who are embracing the "bohemian-style" of life and I decided to look both words up online and create my own meaning. :-P

Here are the individual definitions:

1.) bo·he·mi·an (n.) A person with artistic or literary interests who
disregards conventional standards of behavior

2) rhap·so·dy (n) Exalted or excessively enthusiastic expression of feeling
in speech or writing

So if you twist up that definition to something like this:

Em's Definition : (n) a person with unique interests in every medium without
regard for conventional means and
excessively enthusiastic in expression of
everything they do

So now that I've completed my first blog, please leave me comments and tell me what you think...after all thats the best part :-D

Some other cool weblogs you might want to check out are my friends, Melissa and Hoffer : ) They are my best friends and they talk about everything from women's issues and social issues to poetry and beer commericals.
