A Late Encounter WIth the Enemy-The Past Makes us Who We Are

O'Connor (Choose One of Three) -- Jerz: EL150 (Intro to Literary Study)

"He had forgotten history and he didn't intend to remember it again."
I think its interesting that The General spent his whole life trying to forget everything. It says throughout hte story how he had no need for the past because he lived in the present, but the the past tells us who we are and shows us where were going. But I also thought it funny that the one thing he was avoiding came back in a great rush andit was the last thing he saw before he died. Which I guess shows how we can never escape our past and ultimately death.
