A Necessary Evil

Card, Ender's Game Ch 1-6 -- Jerz: EL150 (Intro to Literary Study)

"Thank you for this Peter. For dry eyes and silent weeping. You taught me how to hide anything I felt. More than ever, I need that now" (33).

I chose this quote because I find it interesting that in Ender's world and even in our world today, lying is a very useful, and often necessary skill to have. I say necessary because Ender is in a very peculiar situation to where it suits him to be able to lie and hide what he's really feeling because any sign of weakness or doubt on his part can lead to his very death. It says alot about society today and what actual constitutes as a weekness. Is it caring about someone or second guessing yourself?
