central idea
Demonstrative Research Essay -- Jerz: American Lit II (EL 267)
"The central idea (paragraph 6)"
I found it interesting that the central idea was built up to and ended up all the way in the 6th paragraph. Rather than stating the idea and then supporting it, this essay showed a natural progression towards the main thought, which I found very effective.

Very good point Jennifer, it does help when you are looking for or looking toward the main point of your paper.

Yeah, it was definitely refreshing to read a critical essay that used a natural structure, rather than a forced one.
Back in high school, teachers expected every student essay to follow the 3.5 essay format, and I remember them stressing that most college professors expect students to conform to that same structure. I wish I could go back and refute them all, now that I know that's ridiculous nonsense.
