Blog # 4 -- small inspiration = blog entry

One thing I learned since the previous blog portfolio is that sometimes one just does not have anything to write about. I fell into that trap and had a really hard time finding things to write about. With this being the last week of classes and finals next week, I have had less time to do fun things and more time to do class work. But alas, I was able to find inspiration in the little amusements which keep me from getting too stressed out.

I also learned that since it might be hard to find a topic to write about, it can be equally as hard to create enough depth about that topic. Thus, my recent blog entries are somewhat short and inconsequential.. but they are entries that I hope will provide some amusement for the reader, just as the topics have amused me.

Interaction:

I still love disney movies, and I enjoyed Kaitlin's post about her top 4 disney movies.

Kelly's entry about photographs and favorite memories reminded me how fortunate we are to have advanced technology.

Depth:

For this blog portfolio, my most in-depth entry is about christmas and some of my favorite christmas activities

Outside Material:

I linked out to dear blank, please blank in this entry

In my entry about christmas I linked to a christmas countdown, directions for making your own paper snowflakes, and a recipe for peppermint bark.

Ethos:

While discussing christmas I offer up some personal details about my love for christmas

Convention:

I thought some of the blog titles I came up with for my entries were eye-catching.

.. I found a site that does just that, HERE!

I absolutely love christmas, the music, decorations, snow, baking! I started listening to my christmas music already and I am about to decorate my dorm room with paper snowflakes as I have done almost every year I have been at Seton Hill. I find it helps get me through finals week, with all the fun decorations and excitement of the holiday. Do you decorate your dorm room for the hoidays?

If you want to use the snowflake idea, it is cheap, lots of fun, and easy too! Here are some directions. And remember, you can leave them up through January since they aren't specifically christmas decorations. Have fun!

I also really like to bake, and the holidays are filled with baking and special recipes that are only used during the holidays. I especially love making christmas candy. One of my favorites is white chocolate and peppermint bark! It's really easy and it looks very christmas-ey. Here is a fairly simple recipe for bark. I suggest placing the tray with the finished chocolate and peppermint mixture in the fridge for a few minutes to set more quickly. And It makes a great gift given in a tin!

Is anyone else as excited as I am for christmas?

Celebrating Seton Hill is Hogwarts Day

I'm not sure if anyone else knows what I'm talking about. But a facebook event deemed this past monday, November 29th, Seton Hill is Hogwarts Day. Thus, one must celebrate the awesomeness that is Hogwarts. My friends and I celebrated by watching Harry Potter Movies and avoiding homework. I hope next year someone makes this celebration more official! Did you celebrate Seton Hill is Hogwarts Day?

the one day a year when people forget how to drive

Has anyone else noticed that on black friday, some people just completely forget how to drive? In the period of a 10 minute car drive on the morning of black friday I witnessed some crazy antics on the road. I'm sure the tv at walmart is a great deal, but is it worth an accident or worse? I hope everyone had a safe holiday and srvived the chaos that is black friday. I was only out briefly to a handful of stores, and definitely not at 5AM, but it was still a little crazy.

Was anyone brave enough to venture out early in the morning this year? What deal were you after, if you don't mind sharing?

Dear blank, please blank.. I wish I was always as witty as you

So I recently caught wind of the website dear blank, please blank. I must say it is a great way to waste some time.. considering a college student has mounds of free time to waste during the last week of classes, right? But be forewarned, before you know it, you will find yourself about 10 pages in with no regrets!

One of my recent favorites

Anyone else thoroughly enjoy dear blank, please blank? Any other good time-wasting sites you care to share?

One thing I learned since the last blog portfolio is that including links to other classmate's blogs and other websites or content adds another dimension to blog posts. It opens up a new avenue, instead of just being a dead-end once the reader is done reading that entry.

I also realize how much work goes into the website hosting our blogs now that we have worked on HTML coding in class. I mean, I only coded a very uncomplicated and simple site, and I can not even imagine how complex the coding for this site must be.

Lastly, I learned that once you really get used to the way it works and shortening what you want to say, Twitter can be a lot of fun. In fact, I was recently watching an episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and he has a segment where he starts hashtags on twitter, then reads some of the best responses during his show. In this episode he started the hashtag #awwhellno.. If you want a good laugh, I suggest you check it out!

Interaction:

Scheduling is a pretty hot topic at the end of fall semester!

Depth:

This is not as in-depth as I usually write, but I have a new favorite tv show.

Discussion:

I thought Kaitlin's story was really neat, plus the unique way it was set up!

After reading Stephanie's entry, I thought I would offer a little piece of advice.

Outside Material:

In this entry, I linked to a suggested episode of World of Jenks

Since we collaborated on our multimedia project, I linked to Kaitlin's blog entry where you can check out our finished project.

Ethos:

In this entry, I offer up information that defines me as a college student

Convention:

I finally got the hang of tweeting messages to individual users on Twitter!

Dear scheduling, I will not miss you

Having just finished scheduling for my last semester as an undergrad, I can honestly say I will not miss the headache which is scheduling. Sure the actual act of scheduling the classes online is not a difficult task. BUT, trying to fit all of the classes you need into your schedule each semester always proves to be a pain. Anyone else loathe this as much as I do?

If you had to schedule your classes for next semester, I hope you were able to get into everything you needed.

And now, dear scheduling.. this is goodbye.

Need a new tv obsession?

As the holidays are approaching and classes are getting insane, you probably are not looking for another tv show to obsess over. But this one is reallly different!

MTV's World of Jenks is a documentary series with the filmmaker, Andrew Jenks, exploring different lifestyles and realities by basically moving in with strangers and living their life. Living on the streets for a week and experiencing life with an austistic teen are just two examples of the real-life situations portrayed.

As if I did not already love this show, they aired an episode which explored the life of Brogan, a twenty-something year old animal rescue volunteer, and her fight against horse cruelty. At the end of the episode, Brogan says "Everyone is capable of doing something". I think that is such a great message to get out there.

You can watch the above mentioned episode: Freedom's Flight and other episodes of World of Jenks on MTV's website. And if you are lucky enough to have cable, it airs Monday nights at 10 PM on MTV.

If you give it a chance, I think you will be amazed at how much insight it offers into real-life situations. Have you already watched an episode of the show, what did you think?

Griff Sightings - Writing Draft

During the Friday night campfire, Griff was spotted hiding behind a group of students, trembling, as ghost stories were told.

Circulating rumors say that Griff has already bought his ticket for the spring play.

A close friend of Griff disclosed that he cannot put down his iPad.  He downloads apps daily, his favorite being the Seton Hill University app.

“It’s an unhealthy addiction,” the insider revealed.

One student claimed that Griff will not stop raving about Spring Thing, the annual spring carnival.

Griff’s notable laugh could be heard booming off the walls during the comedian's act on Saturday evening.  Guffaw!  Guffaw!

The Griffin was seen at the football game last weekend, cheering on the Griffins and enjoying the game from the sidelines.

Students sighted the Griffin having a great time in the haunted house and on a hayride at Night on Haunted Hill sponsored by Make-A-Wish Club this month.

It has been reported that the Griffin likes to enjoy a late night snack in the Griffin’s Cove on campus.

The Griffin has been hitting the gym much more often this year, he must be training for a race or something!

A student worker at the Media Sphere claims that the Griffin likes to play Mario Kart on weeknights. Maybe you can challenge him to a game?
