EL 405 Term project: author's statement

I have completed a slide show, using Flash, for my term project. The project is entitled: My personal tattoo essay. It is about my journey into the wild world of getting tattooed. Rock and roll, the sound of a tattoo gun, and non-conformists. I have implicated all of that into my slide show. I had a lot of fun using Flash. For me it was almost like filmmaking. I would like to involve myself more with it, in the future. Possibly develop a Flash game or a short movie. The steps behind the project were a bit frustrating. At first I thought I had it all right. Of course that was stored in my head. When it came time to develop all of that onto Flash, it all fell apart and did not make much sense. I was forced to revamp my project and start all over again. Second time around I got it right. I wanted the audio to be synched with the slide and the theme song to go through the entire presentation. For future students, never be afraid to express yourself, especially in college. Art is wonderful and found in everything. I think that tattoos are art. Flash was a great way to merge art and a short movie together. For potential employers and faculty of Seton Hill University, for a first timer at Flash, I feel that I did a great job. I was able to build a slide show out of a few pictures and audio. I knew almost nothing about Flash when I started this course (EL 405). Upon finishing, I am a rookie at the software. Think of it like this, a journey to find yourself. My project is a metaphor for life.

EL 405 Related resources for term project

I had used the following resources in order to construct my project: Adobe CS3 Flash,
Audacity to edit and record audio. Adobe Photoshop CS3 to resize my photos and munipulate them. pm converter, I used this to convert my audio which were WMA to an MP3.Window's media player to play the title song throughout the picture show.

The reason I didn't blog every step of the way was due to repetitiveness. The same thing would have been written over and over. The blogs I did write are suffice enough to convey to the audience my progress on my Flash project.

EL 405 Term project review of Daniella Choynowski's project

First off, I like that Daniella incorporated the fantasy world of Harry Potter. But, in a way that somewhat restricts users for her game. I say this due to the content: Harry Potter. Only Potter fans be attracted to it or any users that are expecting a challenge and finding a new ending to an old plot. Any way, they will be much excited.
Daniella's Inform game is quite challenging, that makes it not so easy to complete. A player using strategy and the knowledge of their Harry Potter trivia will probably make it through a lot easier than a player without the useful knowhow of sorcery.
Putting her own ending to Deathly Hallows was very imaginative. Daniella has taken a script from Potter and rewritten it. A playable script. That is what makes Inform 7 interesting. A designer can take a movie, or anything for that matter, and twinge it to their likeness. I wish I could have done that with a few movies and television shows I have seen. I've always wondered what was going through the mind of David Chase as he wrote the last episode of The Sopranos.
Daniella has made an inventory, created environments, and brought noticeable characters, from the movie, into her game making them animated accrediting the inspiration to J.K. Rowling. That takes a mindful person to construct. An example of her additions is found in her blog Update on Beta testing over break-Changes:EL 405. Inform 7 seemed a bit complicated to me, that's why I chose to use Flash instead. I like to design, not write out characters and environments. I enjoy showing, not telling.
When Daniella hit a bump in the road with her game, she implemented the proper changes necessary for gamers to continue without becoming frustrated. I mean I felt that I needed Harry there himself to solve it.
I was the first to Alpha test "Deathly Hallows-the right way". At first, the game was simple, easy to follow as long as I read the text. After I dove deeper into her game, I became frustrated, becoming stuck and not knowing what to type-in to get through it. I was surprised to see that Daniella took my advice, using it to the game's advantage.
The game has made several appearances before becoming a final product. Daniella has taken constructive criticism and challenged the minds of users to build a fantasy world all her own. One thing I like to see in college is a student who can face a challenge, meet it head on, and independently solve it on their own. That shows that a person is learning. Not being helped by a professor who knows it.
Daniella has put much time into her project. She has basically coded a game. Designing an Inform 7 game is not so easy. It seems that, with some frustration, Daniella has constructed a flawless game. She appears to be confident in her design and relaxed with the appearance of it. Daniella has a future in Inform 7 software.

EL405 Term project update

Today, myself, and the help of the IT guy downloaded WMA to MP3 conversion software. I put most of the audio up and put some interesting effects into my Flash project. I still need to stick a few audio pieces into my project. That will occur Friday or Sat. The Flash project is coming along fine. I am happy with it so far.

EL 405 Term project update

Today I revamped my entire project and built a new one. The new slide show seems better structured. On Thursday, I am adding audio. That should be the finalization of it. My personal essay fits who I am with a twinge of my artistic ability added to it. I really enjoy working in Flash.

EL 405 Beta Testing on term project

Considering there is not much to test on my narrative slide show, I do not have much to say about it, at this point. I have added more pictures, I am going to add sound, today, during class, I have munipulated photos of my tattoos to make them more artsy looking. The structure is up on Flash of my project. I am adding transitions and fades today as well. For music, I want to have Led Zepplin's Stairway to Heaven playing softly in the background. I ripped the CD onto a media player last night at school. I have prepared enough to present a short slide show, but for testing, I am not sure about that.
