Fluff instead of fact, why bother?

My favorite part in John Campbell's comic: "A Famous Person Has Died" is when the news anchor shows the "hastily edited set of clips."  Often the news will show the same set of pictures of a story over and over again.  The audience can see it the first time and the second time, which is enough.
Besides, why do the viewers need to see clips of the famous person who died?  They would probably rather hear details pertaining to the death.  I guess the news just needs to fill time with fluff since they sometimes do not know any real facts.  Reporting a big happening for the sake of reporting it without any real information is a waste of time.  They might as well ignore it if they are uninformed.
However, the news reporters probably cannot do this, or else they will fall behind the other reporters.

I hate seeing the same pic over and over again too! But, if you saw on Michael Jackson's death, as they tried to film and get information about where he was and how he was doing, they ended up standing in front of the hospital filming the same thing for hours because no one was allowed in. They had to switch it up, hence the "hastily edited set of clips".

To continue this ongoing conversation, my mind keeps flashing back to the clips of his kids singing that song about loving their daddy. Cute and heartbreaking but did every news channel and radio station need to play that 50 times a day? The first time I thought that this film was a little too personal for us to be seeing but 50 times is a complete invasion of Jackson's privacy. Yes, we all know that it is terrible that this man died leaving behind his children but common people.
