one down, two to go!

11/28/03 8:59pm. **updated 11/29/03, 9:56am (rats, because I deleted the old entry (the one without pictures) I also deleted the comments.. :-/ Oh well.)
I'm so glad the blog is back up!!! Sorry to everyone that tried to check it out in the past few hours... Another BIG thanks to Dr. Jerz for helping to get it going again! I've been trying to upload pictures, and I don't know if the links will work, but let me know if they do...

This is the poster hanging in my room! karissasign1.jpg
The practice for the swimsuit competition was GRUELING! Three hours in 4 and 1/2 inch heels. Thank God my roomie Jada and I decided that we were going to go comfy--windpants and teeshirts! We didn't get to eat breakfast because it wasn't included in our meal plan... So I didn't get to eat anything until 3pm. Yikes! I was starving, but all we got to eat was a granola bar and a few slices of fruit. Albeit the fruit was mighty tasty, it didn't fill me up. (nowhere near close!)

There are fewer than 70 girls in the Miss Pennsylvania USA division--some girls didn't show up. It was fun to see how many there were in the Miss Teen Pennsylvania division because there are twice as many (or more!) of them... Luckily, we practice and compete separately. I'm already making friends with some of the girls. It's so much fun to talk to everyone and find out where they're from, where they go to school... :)

It was like a rip in time between about 3 and 5:30, namely because we had to be dressed in our swimsuits for 5:30. When I was getting into my suit, there was a knock at the door. Jada answered it, and it was for me--FLOWERS! Oh, gosh--I nearly cried! They were from my "support group" at the NECWB. How sweet! Thank you, ladies. That was incredibly sweet... You're too kind. :)Nonetheless, I felt terrible piling on makeup--that's really not me, but I want it to look nice from a distance. I love my swimsuit!

We had to wait in the "dressing room" for an intolerable amount of time. My feet were screaming to let them out of the cages of clear plastic called shoes... Finally, it was time for my group to go on stage. We're the next to last group--it goes by number, not alphabetical order. It was wonderful. I remember nothing except smiling, finding my dad in the crowd, smiling more, and...smiling. I wasn't nervous at all. It felt great to be in the spotlight. It was such a rush to hear my name called: Karissa Jane Kilgore: six feet tall, 18 years old, first year student at Seton Hill University, Greensburg, PA. **huge grin**

Afterwards, we had to race to the dressing room to change into jeans and our teeshirt. What fun! Try running down a hallway with the distinct aroma of pizza emanating from the surrounding doors when you've had next to nothing to eat--in 4 and 1/2 inch heels and a bathing suit that does wonders for your posture because you can't slump in the least. Yeah, it was fun :)

We did get to eat pizza (limit 2 slices :-/ ) and salad afterwards. But I raced through it so I could go see my dad. I was so happy to see my father. Jada and her mother were right nearby, so we took the opportunity to take a few pictures together. I'm so lucky that she's the same height as me--exactly! In fact, my whole line on stage is about six feet tall... We call ourselves the Amazonians ;)

Since I was still rather hungry, dad took me to the hotel restaurant to get a bite to eat. By no surprise, half the girls from the pageant were also there... hm, lack of food perhaps? Anyway, we had the soup du jour ;) chicken and wild rice yum! :-p

Right now, I'm not tired, but I know it'll kick in soon :) Interviews are tomorrow from 2 til 5, and then the evening gown competition from 7 until 8pm.
