Desert Places, Minds and Forests

Frost, ''Desert Places'' (1936) -- Jerz: American Lit II (EL 267)

The speaker in this is surrounded by still desolate nature. As he observes his surroundings he cant help but think of his own personal desert places. I think that speaker might be talking about or hinting towards secrets and information that he wouldn’t share with anyone else – making it deserted like the forest. I get this from the last stanza.
“The cannot scare me with their empty spaces
Between stars – on stars where no human race is
I have it in me so much nearer home
To scare myself with my own desert places.”
The speaker has claimed that his own desert places are much more intense/scary than the lonely forest that he is presented with. The speaker must be holding in some serious issues that would make them feel this way.

Mending Wall

Frost, ''Mending Wall'' and ''After Apple-Picking'' (1915) -- Jerz: American Lit II (EL 267)

The speaker asks an important question and/or makes a valid point.

"Before I built a wall Id ask to know what I was walling in or walling out.”

His neighbor on the other hand doesn’t ask this at all but just keeps repeating his mantra,

“Good fences make good neighbors.”

It is very noticable that the speaker is against the idea of the fence but yet the speaker goes along with it. I think that he is trying to prove to his neighbors that people can be just as good neighbors as a fence.

Moderately Loud...

Ex 1-2a: Poetry Analysis -- Jerz: American Lit II (EL 267)

For my William Carlos Williams poem I chose Mezzo Forte... Although it is rather short it is the only one that really caught my attention.
