Rouge gameplay

Honestly after watching just the video I have no idea what that game is or what it is about. Has anyone played this game and can give me some more insight on it. After reading the link that Dr. Jerz provided us with I gained a little more knowledge on this game and how it works. It does remind me of games that are more popular now that involve leveling up before you can fight certain people and looking for certain objects to help you level up and become more powerful. I would like to know if anyone has played this game what they think of it personally. http://jerz.setonhill.edu/EL250/2010/01/rogue_gameplay/

I've got a copy of Rogue on my six-year-old PDA. It's kind of like Tetris, in that you can jump into it for a quick game, without having to commit hours and hours to feel like you're making any progress.

If you are curious about sampling Rogue, try this link.

Rogue was sort of the anti-Mystery House, in that MH put what was at the time a lot of resources into storing the pictures, and the game world couldn't change very much without making the pictures irrelevant. Rogue could change on a moment's notice -- all those dungeons are generated randomly.

I had no idea what was going on when I watched the video either, Keith. This is definitely one of those games that you need to experience for yourself in order to understand it. We could understand the basics of Mystery House and Atari Adventure just by watching the videos, because it was very clear to see what the user was doing. The same doesn't apply for this game. I tried playing the game after I watched the video, and I was still lost for a few minutes before I finally adapted to the controls. It's a lot more fun than I anticipated!
