Authors using blogs!

Recently I've been reading alot of my favorite authors. It surprised me, when reading the little bio's in the front of the books, or the flapjackets (that I hate btw) that many authors have a blogspot! or else they have a livejournal.

for example:

Justine Musk

J.D. Riso

and many many others.

I realized then that this is the future of writing, and that you don't necessarily need a webpage to keep your readings informed, or to hear from them--you just need a weblog!

I know that I plan on using a blog when I begin to write. I just don't whether or not I'm going to be using a pseudonym or not.

Yes! There are tons of author blogs out there and I admit to frequently surfing them, just to see what my colleagues are up to. It's a great way to learn the more personal side of these public figures. But there is also a high "churn" rate... writers often start a blog only to give up after awhile because it gets in the way of their novel writing (like William Gibson). A lot of writers feel that if they're going to put the work into crafting words, they should get paid for it, so they don't blog at all. Others use it as a publicity tool and end up spending more time on publicity than producing new work. It can be a Catch-22. That's why I frame mine as a newsletter rather than a regularly-updated website.
