A Twist on a Twist

O'Connor, "Good Country People" -- Jerz: EL150 (Intro to Literary Study) "'And you needn't to think you'll catch me because Pointer ain't really my name. I use a different name at every house I call at and don't stay nowhere long.'"

For once in all these stories I was shocked
at how O'Connor ended, twisting ex-
pectations. Hulga had control, and mocked.
The boy then tricked her, promising some sex.

I haven't seen this side of Flan'ry O.
The other stories' endings seemed to be
establish'd facts that kept us in the know.
The twist on this one was so sad to me.

HallieGeary:

reMEMber HULga TRIED to TRICK him FIRST
by SAYing SHE was SEVenTEEN years OLD.
she DREAMED of MANly, TRIED seDUCing HIM.
taDA! Then HE turned 'ROUND and seDUCed HER!

Jara White:

Hallie makes a good point Hulga also
thought herself more superior then him.
