The Half-Skinned Steer

Jerz: Am Lit II (EL 267): Proulx, ''The Half-Skinned Steer''

The story remains me my grandparents because they used to have about 15 or 20 pigs. When I went to their house, I sometimes feeded these pigs. My mother told me that my grandfather used to sell some pigs to butchers. My mother didn't llike it because she thought it was cruel. Tin Head did skinning his cows. I wonder he thought anything about skinning his cows. He had dinner after skinning. I don't think I can eat anything after skinning.
The story doesn't have " " (I don't know the name) when people talk. It was sometimes hard to read for me.

Mina, this story was a little hard for me to read too. What I did to help gain a better understanding though, was read it out loud to a friend, and then read it to myself. Both times, my readings were different and the picture that Ms. Proulx is trying to paint was refined as I read twice. I recommend that you try this. Even if you feel a little embarrassed by reading this out loud, do it anyway! My mother made me and my friends read out loud when they came over and it really helped both my understanding of a story and my English language skills. Just make sure it's a good friend that you know won't laugh at you and you'll do great!

Hey, Minz - Just wanted to leave a random comment and tell you that you're awesome!

(Well, actually, my comment's not totally random.) In regards to your post, I think that after a while a person like a butcher becomes de-sensitized to what they're doing, and it doesn't bother them or at least, as much as before. I think that they just get so used to seeing the same sight over and over again, their feelings start to become "immune" to it, and the initial shock starts to diminish over time. This applies to some people more so than others, of course.
