Chap 2&3 from It Ain't Necessarily So

It Ain't Necessarily So (Ch 2 & 3) -- News Writing (EL 227)

The reading in chapter 2 talked abouy reasearch in news stories. In a newsworthy headlining story, usually the research is inconclusive. Research in sceinctific stories and court cases sometimes comes out with wrong research.
The newsworthiness of a story also often picks who will get the story and where it will appear. Also, big stories have the possibility of coming from smaller ones.
Chapter 3 talks of bait and switch in the media. How crimes, violence, and sex sell to readers. A story that involves the use of drugs to loewr inhibitions will get a readers attnetion. Reporting on assault and rape is usually twisted by reporters to be an eye catcher.
