I know and understand that you're just trying to prepare us for the fast paced, caffeine driven world of journalism but this is absolutely insane. If this is supposed to be a slice of the journalistic world then this is unfair. In the "real" world, if I were a journalist I wouldn't have to worry about the fact that I have a test on Wednesday, a research paper due next week, and about a ZILLION other homework assignments due in a cluster of unavailable time.
This midterm reporting exercise couldn't have come at a more unopportune time in my scholastic life. I think this is a great idea at trying to get the class involved in writing and interviewing but this is the WORST time to do it.
It's very true that for the next month, we are all going to be in "sprint" mode (me, too -- I'm already working on the sylalbus for my Spring courses).
In the "real" world, you wouldn't have the whole week to work on your article -- the final draft would be due at 9am tomorrow.
But venting is important and useful, so please, vent away. In the meantime, if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

I have a niece that saw Ladacris on a show where he took this young lady on her porm, and it made my niece feel so good to see that he really care for people with a handicap. My niece name is Serrita Miles,and she is 17yrs old with an incomplete heart,and lung,she is on a vendelator for the rest of her life, she goes to Julius High Shcool, and she grauate in the year 2006, my niece has no friends, i take that back she does has her cousins, but she want other poeple to like her, and me and the family thought that if she could have a porm date with Ladacris that maybe she could have other poeple for her friend, i know that this is to mush to ask someone famous,as Ladacris,but we need his help very much.Serrita take all her classes at home because she is sick alot,but she wants to go to a School party, she don't know anyone to ask to go, so i'm asking Mr.Ladacris from the bottom of my heart to please help me to make a day for my niece to remeber for the rest of her life, something we can cherish forever.
