A Day In The Life Of...

As I was happily walking from my car onto the cement sidewalk today at school, a couple items came across my mind that I thought about. All people should be thankful for the lives that they have, but what if we were born as an animal? What would our life be like?

As I walked a squirrel eating some nuts in the grass, I thought what would be his daily duties for that day. Does he have a family? A job? Hobbies?

I think about my cat Flan. We can him the "human" cat. He acts like a human in many ways. For example: Loves taking baths (by himself), will only eat out of a box or bag with a hole in it from his crunchies, and drinks from a water fountain on the table. What goes in Flan's mind everyday? Is he lonely since he has no other pets around and stays inside all day?

Sometimes I wish I could be an animal. Sometimes though, I think about the faults. Example: Easy accidents of getting injured or killed, gross food to eat, and a short life span.

Who knows, maybe one day when I pass away gray & old I may turn into an animal of my choice.

I have often wondered if cats or dogs get really bored. I mean, Samson, my cat lays on my electric blanket all day long. When I get home he is in the same position...does it stem from boredom? Laziness?

I think a little of both.

However, I don't think most animals care what they eat, that is, unless they are the white fluffy cat on the Fancy Feast ads. My dogs, for example, would eat tin cans and play-dough if my mother would feed them that. And live.

I think animals know what we say, seriously! Last year when I was getting ready for my riding lesson at the barn, I was having trouble with my horse, after I made comment about not getting a long with certain people and having trouble with him and afterwards he was well-behaved the rest of the time. I have heard of a lot of other stories like that too.
Oh yeah, I always wonder what horses are thinking or maybe even what they say to each other after their riders go away.

I think that when you come home and see a cat laying in the same position or a horse just standing there eating hay in the same spot, I guess that is their kind of "fun." My cat enjoys only one brand name of food and loves water... can a "human-like" creature get any cheaper to buy for? Come on.. sometimes we spoil him with a dollar or two toy. Animals are so wonderful to have in our lives. I just wish they could talk because my cat meows non-stop, wondering what he is saying when I swing him around or rub his back, who knows??

My dogs are ridiculous. My "good" dog, the cocker spaniel, Sherwood, is brilliant and well-mannered for a dog. My "bad" dog, german shepard golden lab mix, named Serena, is in the running for the dumbest thing on four legs, and bit the cord of the lamp that subsequentially burned my house down. She's lucky to be alive, but we love her just the same.

Never had a cat. I had rabbits and hamsters, though. Guinea pigs. Angel fish. Lots of tadpoles. I miss my tadpoles.. ;^)
