DAY 6: Firenze

DAY 6: FIRENZE
• The Academia Gallery
o Michelangelo’s masterpiece the original David stands at the Academia. David, the biblical hero, is a perfect male nude carved out of a flawed piece of marble. This statue stand 17ft tall and is mounted on top of a pedestal and is to be viewed but looking up at it. David carries his sling used against Goliath. David stands in a relaxed contrapposto pose and the look on his face show that he just won the match of his life. Michelangelo astonishing knowledge of the human is noted especially in David’s hands. The protruding veins, creases of the knuckles, and fingernails are all correctly placed and in proportion to the size of David. I love this sculpture, but I must now say seeing some of Michelangelo’s unfinished work of art has now become my favorites due to the fact that I can use my imagination.
